It is always a good practice to keep back-up files in case your main files get deleted, you get locked out of your account, or you lose your internet connection. It’s also useful for archiving and filing purposes. Brightspace allows you to export and download the different components of your classes.
At the end of the course or a grading period, you can download student grades by generating a CSV or Excel file of the grade book.
Go to the Course and click Grades from the navigation bar.
Click the Export button. This will take you to the Export Grades page.
In the Key Field section, choose whether the export file identifies the students using their Org Defined IDs, usernames, or both.
In the Sort by section, select how the export file will organize the students’ details.
In the Grade Values section, select how the export file will present existing grade item scores. Selecting Points grade will show the total points achieved by the student. Selecting Grade Scheme will show the percentage achieved by the student.
In the User Details section, choose whether the export file also includes the first name, last name, and email address of the student.
In the Choose Grades to Export section, select the grades you want to include in the export file.
Once done, choose between exporting to a CSV file or Excel spreadsheet file. A pop-up window will appear. Wait for the export file to be created and click on the Download button.
Wait for the download to finish and click on the Close button.
In Brightspace, you may save your courses for the purpose of re-offering them later without building them again from scratch. Archiving courses lets you download copies for back-up or archiving.
Go to the Course and click Course Admin on the navigation bar. If this is not visible from your Course navigation bar, ask your administrator to make it visible in your course.
At the Course Administration page, click Import/Export/Copy components.
At the Import/Export/Copy Components page, select Export as Brightspace Package and then click the Start button.

Once done, click the Continue button.
If you you selected Select individual items to export, you will be brought to pages which will allow you to select specific items to download per component. Once done, click the Continue button.
At the Confirm Components to Export page, click the Continue button.
At the Export Course Components page, wait for the package to be created and click on the Finish button.
