Competencies are essential for educators because these help you set goals for your students and also help you track how they progress with a course or class in Brightspace.
Competency Structures allow you to associate course activities, such as quizzes and assignments, and associate them with learning objectives and the competencies you mapped out for your class or course in Brightspace.
Making full use of the Competencies tool allows you to link your students' work in Brightspace with the learning objective and competencies you are using. It also makes it easier for you to track their progress.
Once you have created a quiz or an assignment, a learning objective, and a competency that are all associated with each other, you can build the Competency Structure through the following:
Click Competencies on the navigation bar
On the Competency Home page, click the learning objective that you want to associate with an activity.
Click Structure
In the Edit Structure tab, click Add Child.
Click Incorporate Activities.
Click the activity type that you want to add and enter the required details.
Click Add.
Make sure to coordinate with Admins to ensure that the Competency Structures are properly mapped and organized between the different classes and instructors. You can save a lot of teacher conference time by using BrightSpace to link these different data sets together and even automate the evaluation. You can use the extra time you saved to focus on giving proper feedback or intervention to your students.
