Assessments such as quizzes and assignments help us evaluate how well our students are doing with the content and their progress in our class or course. You can make quizzes on Brightspace and it is one of the activities that can be graded and linked to the learning objectives and competencies you can set up in the course.
There are two ways to create a quiz. You can either organize your quizzes to belong to a certain Unit or Lesson. This is perfect if you want your students to see in which Lessons it is associated with. Or, create a quiz that they can access together with all the other quizzes inside your course.
Steps 1 to 6 will show you how to create a Quiz inside a Unit or Lesson.
Go to the specific Unit or Lesson where you want to place your quiz.
Click Create New. You will see the different types of content that you can create inside your Unit or Lesson.
Choose Quiz.
Enter the name of your Quiz. You can name your quiz after its focus topic. This is a required field. The system will not let you save an unnamed Quiz.
Next is writing a description of your quiz. The description is visible to your learners even before they start answering it. You can give your students some instructions on how to prepare for the quiz using that description. You can tell them which Lessons they should have read first before answering the quiz. You can also ask them to prepare tools or materials they might need, say a calculator and some scratch papers.
Then click create and insert.
Now click Go to Quiz. Here’s where you can start setting up your quiz!
Alternatively, if you prefer to see all the quizzes together, you can try this.
Go to the course offering page and go to Quizzes.
You will be redirected to the Manage Quizzes page. To create a new quiz, press the New Quiz button. You will be redirected to the New Quiz page.

Click on the Properties Tab to set up your quiz before Adding New Quiz Questions or Importing Questions through a CSV file. Brightspace offers teachers a way of preparing our quiz questions without being online the entire time! You can actually place your questions in a CSV template file provided by BrightSpace! Make sure that you have Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel which you can use to edit the CSV file. Make sure that you don’t convert the CSV file to EXE and that you don’t accidentally add another tab
First, let’s get that CSV template from BrightSpace!
Go to the quiz you created by going to the course offering, then click Quizzes, and then click the name of the quiz you created.
Press the Import button and press Upload a File. A popup will appear.
The popup will prompt you to upload a CSV file. Download the template by clicking Download template CSV.
Access this template and carefully follow the template to create questions on the CSV file. Edit the file using Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel. Here’s an example of a CSV file with different questions:
Creating multiple choice questions...
Creating true or false questions…
